I believe many preferred this Amy over her lovestruck personality, and this is the most that version of her personality has ever been shown in the main modern Sonic universe. He is shown being able to keep a level head and course with rage at different points, and his personality in this game really just weaves all of the aspects of his personality that have been shown over the years into one.Īmy is basically Sonic Boom Amy, so if you've seen that show you know what you're in for with her. He isn't gullible enough to just buy into everything Dodon Pa is saying, but he remains competitive, going all the way back to his original role as Sonic's rival. Keep in mind, I know what I know from watching various people playing through the story, so I haven't seen every single interaction, but everything I've seen of Knuckles portrays him as how he always should be.
Knuckles is thankfully not portrayed as stupid, at least not in what I have seen. There are several moments in the story where he is suspicious of the competition and excited alongside Sonic in equal measure, and he never comes off as either an arrogant intelligent person or a wimp. And he displays his adventurous and childlike side in the way he still looks up to Sonic and can just have a good time with the best of them. Yes, he is knowledgeable and frequently mentions various inventions he has made, but its not in a cocky or bragging way like Lost World or an intentionally nerdy way like Sonic Boom. Instead he balances the science-y stuff with his more childlike personality, making for, once again, one of the best characterizations of Tails in recent times. Tails is not skewed entirely in one of two directions. This is like Adventure Sonic but voiced by Roger Craig Smith, who does a great job. He frequently congratulates them for a good race, worries about them, and even lets his ego drop in some moments to show when he knows things are serious. In fact, this is also the most he's been shown caring about his friends in awhile. He is frequently seen trash-talking those he is going up against, but it never becomes grating or seems like he's being a jerk. Sonic is extremely excitable and hyper, as evidenced by how he states on several occasions that he is aware the competition is most likely one big trap but he wants to go for it anyway because it sounds fun. And the game delivered with some of the best characterizations we've seen in a long time. So while I was never expecting some epic and complicated story from this spinoff racing game, I was excited for so many characters returning and interacting with each other.
People still remember the Chaotix threatening to beat Eggman up if he doesn't pay them, or Big defending his friends, or Omega cheering Rouge up when she discovers the Shadow clones.

That story is potentially the most hokey of the entire series, and isn't really complicated or full of substance, but it is still remembered fondly due to all the varied characters and their interactions with each other. Let's be clear about something: I firmly believe that the presence of the Sonic cast that isn't just Sonic, Tails, and Eggman makes a story more memorable and charming.
